Arrogance is the opposite of humility. It compels us to treat our limits not as unique openings through which God can reveal his goodness but as diseases to be cured. - Susan Annette MutoI think the most obvious example of my not having this attitude is in the way that I express my prayer requests to others. Does this quotation ring true for you?
A good quote and connecting it to prayer is also insightful. Related to that, I am reminded of a conversation that we had about our weaknesses. You asked how I felt about a weakness of mine that seemed to hang around regardless of prayer, etc. My response was that as much as I'd like to get rid of it, it has been the "crack" which has made me cling closer to Jesus in my life. The spirit of humility can help me say, "Thank you", even for this, rather than a triumphalism that says, "I shall overcome."
ReplyDeleteYes, well said. This reminds me a lot of what Paul says in 2 Cor 12:8-10
ReplyDelete"Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
